- Sing to the mountain

Retrospective (5/16/2016)

Patch #108 Driving the Winding Stair in Oauchita National Forest ...

Original Post

Terrible weather (severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes) was forecast for the road we originally planned to take home, so we skirted the storms by driving to the east and found beauty all along the way (though not much else, truth be told) ...

A CD purchased at Crystal Bridges provided the perfect soundtrack ...

as the wind buffeted us ...

until we found ourselves at the foot of the Winding Stair ...

which took us through the Ouachita National Forest ...

giving new meaning to hairpin turns ...

Looking back the way we had come ...

little did we know there would be little more to see for virtually every mile left in the journey. Fortunately, traveling at 75 mph (the posted speed limit) on undivided two-lane roads, we finally found our way to a Nacogdoches B&B with nary a thunderclap to be heard ...

May we be as fortunate tomorrow when we drive the final leg of our journey, into the heart of the storm ...
