Between here and there (redux)

Addendum: Fiona's comment reminded me of her post on Paper Ponderings with its wonderful series of photos from the exhibition opening, including three of her reading the back of the pennant with the words to Rod's song:

You can find the most recent (and future) blog activity on the new blog:

          https://imgoingtotexas.home.blog

But since some folks still come here to Blogger to use the Kindred Spirits links and others continue to use this URL in their own blog rolls, I thought a new post might be in order.

So, here's an update on Mo's project I Dream of a World Where Love is the Answer. The mended shell has returned home from Australia, with beautiful bits and pieces from the Artsite exhibit ...

But the pennant remains in Sydney, where it will be gifted to Old Man Crow on his birthday, as revealed by Mo at the end of this post on her blog:

Happy birthday (a little early) Rod!

May the circle be unbroken

The torn and tattered heart that journeyed around the world to be a part of Mo's dream ...

has returned to the nest ...

Thank you Mo, for your vision and great heart ... I will treasure the memory and the beautiful pieces you sent.

And thank you, Rod, for your music and a heart to match Mo's.

Joy to the world

Addendum: Fiona Dempster wrote a beautiful post about the opening:
https://paperponderings.blogspot.com/2019/03/i-dream-of-world.html

It finally arrived, the opening for Mo's vision of the collaboration I dream of a world where love is the answer ...

Artsite invitation

which includes a beautifully photographed catalog of the contributions from around the globe ...

I am honored to have been a contributor  ...

Link to see the making of the torn and tattered heart

and am so looking forward to seeing even more pictures from the opening, while wishing there was a way to fly around the world to see the exhibit in person.

Joy is just the most apt description for Mo’s exhibit of I Dream of A World Where Love is the Answer for joy abounds in the vision that brought us all together all over the world. Your pennant Liz with words of such deep meaning just sings…for me, this experience was a once in a lifetime journey of connection, caring and sharing.

    1. Deb – that might be because the shell was made at the beginning of Jude’s Considering Weave class … it was, quite literally, when I let go of careful, measured stitching and embraced the wild side of cloth

    1. Connie – thank you … your kind words mean a lot. And yes, we are both doing better every day … hoping likewise for you all, too

Liz , it is a wonderful feeling to be with you and the many others in this exhibition. With my small talisman I feel part of a awesome group. I´m impressed by your pennant and your talisman. Remember well Jude´s weaving class. I didn´t follow your blog yet but I will in future. Doris

Being part of Mo’s project really was a gift, wasn’t it? Your beautiful pennant and mended shell led the way.

    1. Dana – it was so amazing to look at the pictures from the opening and say to self, “look, there’s Dana and Dee and Jude all in a row … and oh my, I’m next to Bronwyn and Judy and Fiona” … as if each pennant stood in for its maker.

I’m still surprised that my contributions arrived first, but less so when I think back to how incredibly motivated I was once the way forward became clear.

So now we have blog posts and video and that amazing catalog … food for much future thought, a joy to return to again and again.

You’re absolutely right … it was, and will always be, a gift …

LA – I love the power of these global collaborations. It was touching and inspiring to see your’s and Marti’s work there. Made the community of love and peace seem more tangible and real. Go well. B

Barry – thank you for taking so many pictures at the opening … they truly brought it to life for me (and many others, I’m sure). What most intrigued me was the one of Fiona reading the words of “I dream of a world where love is the answer” … that’s when I realized Mo’s brilliance in making the pennants so accessible, front and back!

No apologies, just "write"

So you might have noticed I've been gone for a while ... having fun with our grandkids mostly. They range in age from 13 to 5 to 3 years old, down to Little P who has somehow managed reach 9 months already. We put way more than 2000 miles on the car in the past 3 weeks. And yes, it was all worth absolutely every minute of the beautiful racket (with credit to Mary Chapin Carpenter for the phrase, which captures the wild joy of kids at play).

Now it's finally time to be just me again, which includes looking back on last year and looking forward to the year ahead. The first post of 2017 included a list of past resolutions and an overly optimistic new resolution (at the end of this post):
2013 - Create
2014 - Blog
2015 - Stitch
2016 - Remember
2017 - Enjoy
In hindsight, I would rename my resolution for 2017 "Imagine Peace" for the project that ultimately reached over 70 individuals in six countries and twenty states ...

There was also the completion of two projects from the previous year: Land of Flood and Drought 2016 ...

and Remember 2016 ...

Followed by new grandchild projects like this pillow ...

and these nursery wall hangings ...

for the arrival of Sweet P in April ...

I surprised myself by actually finishing a new bag made from linen shirt plackets ...

while only making a start on The Land as the Crow Flies ...

and the Pojagi-inspired Peace Pin Project Shawl ...

Fortunately, I can also report the actual completion of the pennon for Mo's Dream, seen here in a picture from her blog It's Crow Time ...

And in spite of the two projects-pending above, I started yet another in December to commemorate our 40th wedding anniversary (which has since passed, but the project is yet to be completed) ...

Which brings me to here and now: the year 2018 and my resolve to "Write" ... which will include sending "real" mail to kindred spirits in recognition of how much I appreciated the "real" mail that arrived in my mailbox last year ... a continuation of the Peace Pin Project Shawl, which will most likely be renamed the Commonplace Shawl as I intend to stitch words and phrases that I wish to recall in the coming year ... a book for our grandkids tentatively titled Moon Myth ... and last, but far from least, continued posting here on the blog.

So belated best wishes to all for the new year ahead ... may it prove memorable in all the best ways possible. However it turns out in the end, though, I am grateful for your presence along the way.

Letting go of a dream

I think it's done ...

although I'm hard pressed to say which is the back and which is the front ...

Either way, it has gathered Texas sun and wind into its being whilst holding words from Old Man Crow, Terry Tempest Williams, Wendell Berry, John Lennon, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Dee Mallon, Marti in New Mexico, and Mo herself ...

along with cloth and threads dyed by Ulrike Bogdan (Nemo Ignorat), Hazel Monte (Handstories), Deb Lacativa (More Whiffs, Glimmers & Left Oeuvres), Dee Mallon (Pattern and Outrage), Glennis Dolce (Shibori Girl), and my own hand ...

Then it made one last visit to Austin ...

where I told G the story of the cloth and the gifts to and from Mo ...

For Mo sent me a gift beyond measure: The Key Book, written about as she made it:
and now seen here in Texas on the cover of The Illustrated Lyrics of Old Man Crow ...

together with a woven shell from the Outer Banks of North Carolina one last time ...

The pennon called Mo's Dream is now ready to whirl away ...
