Ranchos de Taos

We stayed just south of Taos proper, at a B&B in Ranchos de Taos ...

There we found tranquil beauty ...

and shelter from the sun ...

But best of all, we were close by the plaza where the San Francisco de Asis church has been the subject of Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams, among others ...

getting close enough to see this is not faux adobe ...

Then wandered on to "shop" at Chimayo Trading del Norte
that was more of a museum than a gallery  (which is to say, far out of our price range) ...

and the Two Graces gallery next door
which was, by contrast, well within our means ...

Two boxes of metal later, it was clear we had fallen hook, line and sinker.

  2. Mo - B&Bs are a luxury we rarely indulge in ... this one was a real treat (especially as I was able to book the least expensive room ;)

  5. Liz, your Taos photos are so engaging, giving a sense of how Taos is a unique, spirit giving place, as Grace said. To me, Taos is like no other place in New Mexico. I always come away with a sense of absorbing its wonder and magic that seems to hold within for a long time. We don't get to Taos every year but last year, our daughter and her man treated us to a weekend at the old Taos Inn and I simply inhaled the spirit of the place.

We got back to New Mexico last night from spending most of August in CA, then back to New Mexico with grand kids then long drive back to CA with them via trips to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Busy, intense, fun, educational, silly, loving and yes, tiring...takes a lot of energy for this 70 yr old GrandMa to keep up with lively, energetic 9 yr old twins but we wouldn't have missed it. Seeing the wonders of the land in so many places through their eyes is such a gift and I know that you and Don understand this.

Now I have some lovely time to take my cup of tea tomorrow and read and catch up with your doings and with great joy, the progress of Moon Myth.

  6. Did you walk the labyrinth at your B&B? I love labyrinths and I love Taos, although I have only been there once. Chimayo too...all on that long ago vacation that started in Madrid NM. What a wonderful part of the world.

  7. I must say my heart rate dropped as I looked at the photos of Taos - it seems a pretty special, calm and magical place. And of course - what can one do when one makes such great discoveries but collect a few here and there! Enjoy.

  8. Marti - so glad to hear of your travels with your grandtwins ... and I totally get the energy expended versus joys gained equation. Welcome home.

Dana - sadly, the labyrinth remained unwalked, lost in the hustle and bustle of too much to do and too little time

Fiona - gathering memories and inspiration to bring home with us was easily done in Taos ... enjoy we did
