Patch #135 Good luck
Once I got started, I couldn't stop. The strip of black and white squares, begun yesterday, was completed by dinner time ...
And now I know how long my monthly patch strips are: exactly 57 one-inch squares. I couldn't have done better if I tried.
This week's weather patches got done for dessert ...
Twenty rows of seven. I do love these little bits of linen!
The black and white squares are the perfect foil and container for the myriad variations of the days. This is going to be such a fascinating quilt...a true heirloom. The weather patches make a quieter pattern, but are equally compelling. You are catching time in cloth.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dana ... it's been fun riding along as these pieces unfold. Originally, I thought the weather patches would be part of the larger cloth, but more and more I think they may stand alone.
Deletethe black/white has always meant something to me, for all my adult years and
ReplyDeletemaybe beyond, the thing of "how it is" the thing of "a basic Truth of How
Things Go. These compliment so perfectly and maybe even at some point just
a thinner strip of b/w now and then, like maybe an 1/8th of the b/w, even
not all the way across but to provide relief from the movement of days...
oh, my pleasuremind likes this a LOT
There's no doubt that there will be more black and white strips, if only because they're so much fun to make. How many and where are the unknowable pieces at this point.
DeleteI'm glad you like them ... that makes two of us!
i do. like them a LOT
Deletenearly halfway!
ReplyDeleteHard to believe how quickly we are coming to our respective solstices!
DeleteHi Liz...I will be turning 60 this November and was thinking about creating 60 patches to commemorate. Not sure what I will do to embellish each square. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteMaybe one for each year? A color that matches clothing in a photo, a patch from clothing (yours or a family member), word/s that have significance for the year, maps of special places or house numbers ... whatever you do, I hope you'll give me a chance to take a peek.
DeleteLiz...thank you for all the great suggestions! I better get started on it since November is not far away (the way the weather has been going here in IL!). Bless you sweet!
