- The big reveal

Retrospective (12/19)

Patch #335 First girl

Original Post

We first got the news on August 19
but I was asked not to say anything, so I just stitched pale pastels to remember the day.

Then this past Monday, official word was received. With Meg's birthday just two days away, she requested a special vanilla vanilla cake (her long-time favorite first documented here

So the candles were carefully placed with G's assistance:
"M" for Mommy/Meghan ...

then lit (with a serious flame-thrower) ...

sung over ...

and blown out.

But it was G doing the wishing ...

because he had been told that the cake would reveal whether he will be having a baby brother or a baby sister ...

and he discovered ...

there was pink icing inside ...

Wish granted! A new baby sister will be arriving in April.

Patch #332 Reinhorn

Original Post

Rein-horn?

Or is that Long-deer?

Either way, Don's latest assemblage is getting us in the Christmas spirit.

I decided to contribute to the holiday cause by straightening out my cloth stash, the bulk of which is thrifted linen clothing (my favorite fiber) ...

I even got a few retro patches done.

October 22 Chocolate cake for breakfast

October 24 Dolphin day

and October 26 Flounder gig (aka TSA nightmare)

Hopefully one more day and I'll actually finish the October patches.

Patch #331 Finding a way

Original Post

The air is finally cooler so we're doing some much-needed maintenance along the east trail, which was washed out by a six-inch deluge in September.

We started by filling around the exposed rocks with some yard waste ...

covered that with decomposed cactus  ...

from the compost rows created back when I was working on the Hearts for Charleston project with Dee Mallon ...

then topped the compost off with rock ...

scraped up from the flood plain ...

All of which should make for a more stable path once it's all done ...

But just in case, we're adding a bit of insurance in the form of five baffles ...

each one an old fence picket set between some ugly pavers that we took out of the garden right after we moved in seven-plus years ago. They'll be easy enough to step over, and likewise easy to move out of the way when Don needs to mow the back trails.

Not coincidentally, it's been a great way to work off the Thanksgiving turkey!

Retrospective (12/15)

Patch #327 J's heart

Original Post

Our St Louis daughter sent one of the photos being considered for this year's Christmas card ...

Along with the ornaments they've been crafting ...

And in the spirit of getting ready for Thanksgiving, our Austin daughter sent a copy of the "recipes" from G's pre-school class ...

Needless to say, we thought G's was brilliant ...

Meanwhile, I'm continuing to backfill the past month's patches.

November 8 For all the good it did

And October 23 How peeps might be paisley

So named as paisley informed the shapes used for each head and body. The cloth was a muslin eco-dye with a steel wool chaser made last year.

Patch #325 Shingled sun and shadow

Original Post

First frost hit hard before dawn, but the sun is already melting it away ...

Ever faithful, Don tucked in this non-native palm last night, the first plant we bought after moving to Texas ...

Cloth is once again consoling me with this October trio ...

October 18 Many moons

October 19 Bat boy

and October 20 Balance in all things

So now I'm off to the garden and the wisdom of compost.
