Logan (then 12) helped me shop for supplies: feathers, colorful foam shapes, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, glue dots, and socks (some gently used).
Unfortunately, the boys were only 3-going-on-4 years old ... too young to visualize how to put puppets together, let alone put on "shows." So this year, I decided to make the puppets myself ...
then see where G and J's 4-going-on-5 imaginations might take them. And I don't doubt that 2-going-on-3 Jace will get in on the action, too.
Even if the whole idea goes nowhere, I must say I had a lot of fun making sea gulls ...
pelicans ...
jellyfish, rainbow sharks ...
sea horses, coquina clams ...
turtles, blue crabs ...
and whales ...
However, with any luck, there will be pictures of the puppets in action to share next week. We'll see.
I love those seagulls! And those jelly fish. I used to make puppets with the kids. Can't wait to hear their stories.
ReplyDeleteDee - the seagulls are my favorites, too. I've gotten better at not expecting perfection ... from myself or from the kids. It's a lot more fun that way.
ReplyDeleteyour sock puppets remind me of Shari Lewis and Lambchops, gosh that was a l-o-n-g time ago!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had words to describe how much joy this post just brought to me.
ReplyDeleteI kept thinking, "That's the cutest one. No wait, that's the cutest one."
I'm so into jellyfish that I may have to decide those of my favorites.
Thank you for sharing such wonderful pics.
Hunter
we learn...and Just go. I love these, love that you made them
ReplyDeletelove that whatever Happens is just as it needs to be...
this is just Great, Liz. Really Really Great.
Mo - A blast from the past ... I also remember Kukla, Fran, and Ollie. But the best were the Muppets, which I enjoyed watching with the kids I babysat for.
ReplyDeleteHunter - Joy is good ... and the jellyfish started out as seaweed (ha)
Grace - Thanks for the love ... can't wait to see what you and your great-grands get up to on the Hill
Liz...these are adorable! Yes, I remember Sherry Lewis and Lambchop. Since I love stuffed animals, I find delight in all these creations. Enjoy - no doubt the kids will be fascinated and thrilled with "home grown" creations.
ReplyDeleteOh, my word! These are adorable! Will you be my grandma? Our library has this great book that you might enjoy: "Stray Sock Sewing" I turned a couple of worn out favorite socks into buddies years ago.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh these remind me of mom. she used to make them with us and here nursery school kinds. warm and fuzzies here.
ReplyDeleteYour sock puppets are hysterical! I love them...and I too, remember Lamb Chop. I also love your relaxed attitude about who might or might not use them. It doesn't usually work to get too invested in how others respond to our efforts. We have to like them for ourselves, and clearly you had lots of fun with these.
ReplyDeleteThese are delightful. I anticipate that a wonderful time will be had by one and all.
ReplyDeleteSo cute and fun for your grandchildren - I like the rainbow shark!
ReplyDeleteBelated thanks to all ... field testing results are now in and fun was had
